According to the boss of Ford, Jim Farley, whose European branch will be the spearhead of electrification, with a 100% electric catalog by 2030, it is this deadline that will have to wait for a battery car to be at the same price as a comparable thermal car. As things stand, this is impossible, as the price of electric cars is dictated by batteries. However, these require rare and expensive materials, as everyone already knows.

But Farley predicts a big step will be taken when electric cars use smaller batteries, and new technologies allow the use of less valuable materials. There, prices will go down. But despite this, the electric car will remain an inherently more expensive object than a conventional car. It will therefore be necessary to go further.

Reduce, reduce, reduce

The boss of Ford does not hide that to get an affordable electric car, it will be necessary to trim everywhere. It will take far fewer people in the factories to build them. It will take much fewer people in dealerships, since an electric car needs much less maintenance. And it will also require much fewer concessions, since the business model will switch massively to online sales.

And only when all these conditions are met, will the electric car be more or less affordable. The least we can say is that Jim Farley is not trying to sell us dreams.
