TikTok officials have recently announced their intention to regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) on the social network. Among the measures taken is the ban since Tuesday of images showing private persons generated by an AI such as ChatGPT or DALL-E. However, the process remains authorized for public entities, except for a political or financial purpose.

"Trust and responsibility"

"We want everyone to know that they can access reliable information, discover original content and engage with authentic people. This is a fundamental element in creating a community of trust and responsibility," the Chinese company's management team said in a statement.

This announcement comes at a time when the company is criticized in many countries, or even banned on the smartphones of government employees. With its decision, TikTok could try to project a more reliable platform image in the face of the risk of image manipulation. "AI can make it harder to distinguish between fact and fiction, which carries both societal and individual risks," the company commented.
