One of the most original and iconic buildings in New York City (USA) has changed ownership. The "Flatiron building", which owes its name to its particular shape, was sold at auction on Wednesday. It found a buyer for $ 190 million, or about 177 million euros. The "famous building located in Midtown Manhattan was built between 1900 and 1902.

A financier as a new owner

The winning bidder is Jacob Garlick. It is a financial specialist who created the investment fund Abraham Trust, said an auctioneer of the auction house Mannion Auctions, in charge of the sale. "It's been a dream since I was 14," the new owner told NY1.

One of the unfortunate bidders estimated the amount of repair work needed in the building at $100 million. The latter had been empty since 2019, when the company that occupied it had left the premises. The five owners of the "Flatiron" had failed to reach an agreement on the future of the 22-storey, 87-meter-high building. The court had finally ordered the auction of the building.
