Vincenzo Vecchi will not be extradited to Italy. The Court of Appeal of Lyon, to which the file had been referred, ruled on Friday that the European arrest warrant issued against him was not applicable. A decision that was welcomed by the activist's support committee. "Democratic common sense and the spirit of the law prevailed. After Rennes and Angers, this is the third time that a court of appeal renders the same verdict, "he said calling on the public prosecutor not to "appeal to cassation".

Vincenzo VECCHI .
I can't say anything else right now than: We won!
Refusal of surrender to Italy decided at the moment by the Lyon Court of Appeal. Justice has passed.

Three days to appeal

Vincenzo Vecchi is one of the "Genoa 10", ten demonstrators sentenced to "aberrant sentences" for opposing the holding of the G8 in 2001. He was sentenced to twelve years in prison in 2012, which was later reduced to ten years' imprisonment. Since then, the activist has taken refuge in France and settled in Morbihan.

The Attorney General's Office has three days to appeal the decision. At the hearing, the representative of the Public Prosecutor's Office had requested that Vincenzo Vecchi be handed over to his country.
