China today successfully launched a new satellite from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in Shaanxi Province, north of the country.

Xinhua reported that the Yunhai 023 satellite was launched aboard a modified version of a Long March 6 carrier rocket, explaining that it entered the planned orbit successfully.

The new satellite will be used for air and marine environment surveys, space environment monitoring, disaster prevention and reduction, as well as scientific experiments.

This is the 514th mission of China's Long March carrier rocket series.
