Elon Musk's social media platform X has reinstated searches for Taylor Swift after temporarily blocking users from seeing results due to pornographic deepfake images circulating online.

Sexually explicit and offensive fake images of the singer began circulating last week on X, making the singer the most famous victim of a scourge that tech platforms and anti-abuse groups are struggling to combat.

Unlike the more conventional photoshopped images that have troubled celebrities in the past, Taylor Swift's images appear to have been created using an artificial intelligence image generator that can instantly create new images from a written message.

After the images began spreading online, the devoted "Swifties" fan base quickly rallied, launching a counteroffensive on X and a #ProtectTaylorSwift hashtag to flood him with more positive images of the pop star.
