A new opus that is long overdue. Still in development, "The Sims 5", however, is revealed little by little. The next version of the video game should be free and will have a multiplayer mode, reports HuffPost.

The new information about the video game was revealed on Tuesday in the latest episode of "Behind The Sims", a YouTube show entirely dedicated to Electronic Arts (EA) games. Fans of the franchise must have been happy to learn that they would not have to pay anything to discover the future opus.

Additional free and paid content

"The Sims 4" was released in 2014, so it's been nine years since gamers waited for the next installment of the video game. When it is available, the future video game will be downloadable for free on console and online. This novelty surely has a link with the multiplayer option: EA certainly aims to expand the community of players.

Behind the scenes, the game called "Project René" is still far from finished. The developers, however, have made it clear that updates to the base game will be rolled out to perfect the gameplay at launch. As for the free service, it will only be partial: many additional content will be offered for a fee.

"Base weather could be added to the base game for free," EA says on its website. "And later we could sell a winter sports pack with activities." At the same time, "The Sims 4" will not be abandoned. EA will continue to offer new expansions for the previous version of the game and will be enriched in parallel with its successor.
