She surprised everyone. On Wednesday, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen delivered a speech that served as a political assessment at the end of the parliamentary session. So far, nothing abnormal. But after her introduction, she explained to MEPs that the first part of her text had been written by the artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT. "What I just read is not mine. Or any other human being," she told them suddenly.

The head of the Danish government wanted to highlight the revolutionary but also risky aspect of the technology, especially that used by the conversational robot developed by the company OpenAI. "Even if he has not always hit the nail on the head, both on the details of the government's work program and on punctuation (...) what (ChatGPT) is capable of is both fascinating and terrifying," she said.

Threats of "extinction" to humanity

ChatGPT is one of the latest examples of AI's impressive capabilities, which also raises concerns about the abuses that technology enables, including disinformation or the mass replacement of human employees. The topic is on the agenda of a high-level meeting on trade between the United States and the European Union on Wednesday in Luleå, Sweden. A group of business leaders and experts, including Sam Altman, the creator of ChatGPT, warned Tuesday of the threats of "extinction" to humanity posed by the rise of this technology.

In the part of the Danish speech written by ChatGPT, the following sentences were included: "It has been an honour and a challenge to lead an enlarged government in the last parliamentary year", "We have worked hard to cooperate between parties and ensure a strong and sustainable future in Denmark", "We have taken action to combat climate change and ensure a fairer and more inclusive society where all citizens have equal opportunities."

They also included: "We have also worked to strengthen our health and social system, so that all citizens can get the help they need" and "Although we have encountered challenges and opposition along the way, I am proud of what we have accomplished together over the past parliamentary year."
