Today was inaugurated in Billy-Berclau, Pas-de-Calais, a first part of the ACC (Automotive Cells Company) site, a joint venture founded by Stellantis, Mercedes and TotalEnergies. This car battery factory required an investment of 2 billion euros, about half of which was financed by the state and local authorities. Eventually, it should extend over 180,000 m², and employ some 2,000 people.

At least 500,000 cars per year

This plant is a first in a region also chosen by Renault to establish its own battery factory, and where Chinese and Taiwanese companies are also considering setting up. The France could thus become one of the pillars of Europe in its desire to free itself from Asia for the supply of automotive batteries.

The ACC plant will be commissioned this summer, with 600 employees. Large-scale production is expected to start before the end of the year, with the aim of reaching up to 40 GWh of batteries per year, enough to equip some 500,000 cars.
