The C919, a domestically developed large passenger aircraft, took off today on its first commercial flight from Shanghai to Beijing, officially entering the civil aviation market.

Xinhua reported that the flight, operated by China Eastern Airlines No. MU9191, took off from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport with 128 passengers on board and is planned to land at Beijing International Airport.

The aircraft is the first C-919 jet aircraft delivered globally, and it is also the first large jet aircraft developed domestically in accordance with international airworthiness standards, and has independent intellectual property rights.

The C919 project was launched in 2007, and with development by China Commercial Aircraft Corporation Limited (COMAC), the first C919 exited the production line in Shanghai in November 2015, and in 2017 the aircraft completed its maiden flight.
