Meta, the owner of the Instagram application, said today: "The application services have returned to most users after solving a technical problem that caused the service to be interrupted for thousands of users."

A company spokesperson told Reuters: "Earlier today a technical issue caused some people to be unable to access Instagram. We were able to resolve the issue as quickly as possible for everyone affected by the service interruption."

The company did not disclose how many people were affected by the disruption, but the Down Detector website showed more than 100,24 cases in the United States, 56,<> in Canada and more than <>,<> in Britain.

More than 180,<> users reported problems accessing the app at the height of the outage.

Down Detector monitors outages by collecting reports from several sources, including users.
