Chile-based HIF Global is Porsche's partner of choice for its CO2-neutral synthetic fuels adventure. We already told you last December about the pilot plant, which the partners had just opened. The results are clearly encouraging, since HIF has just obtained permission to set up a second gigantic plant in Texas.

Competitive?

Once launched and running at full capacity, this plant should be able to output 750 million litres of fuel per year. This is obviously very little compared to global needs. By optimising the CO2 production and capture processes, HIF expects to be able to reach the selling price of €2 per litre. An important nuance is that we are not talking about the price at the pump, and the figure does not take into account the various taxes on fuel. Small hope all the same, 2 € is the least optimistic prediction, HIF also imagining a price of 1.60 or even 1 € per liter. And there, yes, we are really approaching the price of a regular gasoline. But clearly, there is still a long way to go.
