The singer Grimes said on Monday she was in favor of her voice being used to generate songs with artificial intelligence (AI). The Canadian artist only wants the creators to pay him half of the rights to the new titles.

For her, this sharing of rights would be equivalent to that of a collaboration "with any artist". "Feel free to use my voice without restriction," the 35-year-old composer, producer and performer said on Twitter. "I have no label or legal obligations" vis-à-vis a third party, record company or distributor, she added.

Heated debates around AI

The statements of the singer with the crystalline voice come a few days after the publication on TikTok of a fake duet between Drake and The Weeknd, generated thanks to the AI. Heard millions of times, the title Heart on my Sleeve was removed from the social network after a few days, at the request of Universal Music which produces the two singers.

Grimes is the former partner of Elon Musk, with whom she has two children, one of them by surrogate. The entrepreneur has an ambivalent attitude towards AI: he says it could lead to the "destruction of civilization" but at the same time he invests heavily in this technology.
