Tesla wants to end its offer of free lifetime charging on Superchargers. The Californian manufacturer would like to backtrack and offers new benefits to customers willing to give up this promotion, reports Electrek relayed by Phonandroid.

Free and lifetime charging appeared in the early years of marketing Tesla vehicles. The brand offered buyers of Model S and X to benefit from it. In 2018, the company dropped this bonus, explaining that it was too expensive. The offer has repeatedly returned to short-term offers, such as in 2019 and February 2022.

The end of super promos

Several thousand customers driving Tesla Model X or S still benefit from free charging for life. A serious problem for Elon Musk's company, which therefore proposed a new offer to these drivers in early 2023. By giving up free charging, they can benefit from a $5,000 discount on the purchase of a new electric car.

On Monday, Tesla launched a new operation. It allows you to get a latest-generation Model S or X for "free" by swapping lifetime charging for six years of unlimited charging. The offer, which runs until June 30, could be attractive: customers who already own a Tesla only have to give up lifetime charging to get a newer and more efficient vehicle.

Tesla wants to put an end to all the advantages it has been able to offer in the past, recalls Phonandroid. As of April 2022, it no longer supplied the mobile chargers previously included with the vehicles. In the summer of 2022, it also ended the lifetime of free GPS features of its vehicles.
