All connoisseurs know what laymen may not know: the famous supercar brand began its history in 1948, with the production of agricultural tractors. It was obviously in an Italy in full reconstruction after the war. An Italy that needed everything, and in the first place machines to work the land. It was at this time that Ferruccio Lamborghini began to sell tractors, made from parts from abandoned military equipment. Then, little by little, success helping, the company develops its own tractors, and it is only in 1958 that Lamborghini machines are equipped with engines ... Lamborghini.

2R

This is a Lamborghini 2R, whose marketing had started a year earlier. Its historical importance is very symbolic, but still: it is the brand's latest new tractor, before it also embarks on the production of sports cars. This 1962 example has been completely exposed to enjoy a complete restoration. Some wear parts have been replaced (fuel pump, hydraulic elements), but we have kept a maximum of original elements, including the carefully redone PTO and the 3-cylinder 2.2-liter engine of 40 hp. Finally, it was coated with the colour combination it had received when leaving the factory.

In short, it is like new and in perfect working order. This wonder will be auctioned during the spring sales organized by Mecum Auctions from May 12 to 20 in Indianapolis (USA). And how much is such a collector's tractor worth? Mecum does not say it, but we found traces of an identical model sold in 2020 by Artcurial, at a price of € 17,880.
