Tesla continues its conquest of the European market with its electric vehicles. The American manufacturer has even managed to raise one of its cars, the Model Y, to the top of the best-selling passenger cars in Europe between January and March 2023, all models and engines combined, report our colleagues from Capital, who cite figures from the Jato firm.

In total, the company led by billionaire Elon Musk sold no less than 71,683 copies of this electric SUV in Europe in the first quarter of this year, far ahead of the Dacia Sandero which ranks second with 60,202 models registered. The Volkswagen T-Roc and its 54,960 sales complete the podium.

A price drop to conquer the world

In France, 9,363 Model Y were sold in the first quarter. The car marketed by Tesla has thus overtaken the Dacia Spring to rank in the best sales in France. This should reinforce the ambition of the American manufacturer who wants to make this Model Y the best-selling car in the world. To do this, Tesla has not hesitated to lower the price of this electric SUV since January 2023.

Across all its models, Tesla achieved a 58% increase in the number of sales in Europe during this first quarter. Elon Musk's company is positioned in 16th place of the most coveted brands.
