Today, the Ford Explorer is a "king size" plug-in hybrid SUV, typically American. It will be replaced before the end of this year by the new Explorer, a much more compact SUV, designed and built in Europe, and 100% electric, of course. Because if the brand with the oval seems to want to assert its American roots with a design a little "in your face", this look hides a technical base that could not be closer to us. After the Ranger and the Tourneo Connect, this is indeed the third fruit (but the first electric fruit) of the partnership with... Volkswagen.

Ford ID

Ford has not yet communicated any precise technical data, but we know that the explorer is based on Volkswagen's MEB platform, the same one used by all electric models of the VW group, from the ID. family to the Skoda Enyaq, including the Cupra Born. The range of possibilities should therefore include solutions with one or two engines, powers of about 170 to 340 hp, and a maximum range of 500 km. Production of the new Ford Explorer will be launched in the second half of 2023, for marketing towards the end of the year. We should soon know more about this vehicle, for which Ford promises a base price of less than € 45,000.
