It will not arrive until next October, but BMW has already announced that the eighth generation of the 5 Series will be available in an all-electric version (i5), including an M Performance version. This offer will be completed by plug-in hybrid versions, but also equipped with petrol and diesel engines with 48V hybrid technology.
Built exclusively in Germany
This new BMW 5 Series will be built exclusively at BMW's Dingolfing plant. This unit in Lower Bavaria is the company's largest assembly site in Europe. Production of the new 5 Series will begin the same year that the plant celebrates 50 years of manufacturing BMW models. The brand's cars have been rolling off Dingolfing's lines since 1973, and its current portfolio includes the 7 Series and 8 Series, as well as the iX.
