Tragic death spells end of 16-year-old athlete

Young athlete Mia Sofia Leitke, a member of Germany's rhythmic gymnastics team, died at her country's training centre.

According to German media, the initial cause of death was sudden cardiac arrest.

The German Gymnastics Federation announced the death of the 16-year-old "artist", who concluded last season as her country's champion in junior collar exercises, and this year moved to the senior team.

The tragedy occurred at the German national team training center in Feilbach-Schmiden.

The center's doctors were unable to help the young athlete.

There has been no official announcement of the cause of Leitky's death, but insiders of the influential publication in the German newspaper "Bild" pointed out that Mia Sophia did not suffer a sudden cardiac arrest, but everything will become clear after the autopsy.
