The final roster of the 24-man baseball team for the
Hangzhou Asian Games has been announced. 19-year-old pitcher Jang Hyun-seok is the first high school student to be selected for a national team made up of professional players.

The most prominent name on the roster, which is made up mainly of players under
the age of 25, is pitcher Jang Hyun-seok, a third-year veteran of Yongmago.

Regarded as one of the best prospects of all time with his fastball and changeup ability in the mid-to-late 3 km/h range, Jang Hyun-seok became the first high school student to wear the Taegeuk mark with his seniors since the 150 Asian Games in Bangkok, when professional players were first selected.

[Gye-Hyun Cho, Chairman of the KBO Power Enhancement Committee: There is also a dimension of giving dreams and hopes to young players for amateur development.

[Jang Hyun Suk/Masan Yongmago Pitcher: (Acquaintances) I think my phone is going to explode because everyone is contacting me right now, I want to show you how confident you are on the mound and not dozing off.]

While the top players under the age of 1998 such as Lee Jung-hoo, Kim Hye-sung and Kang Baek-ho were the main players, the "wild cards" for the 25-and-over age group included Koo Chang-mo, Park Se-woong, and KIA outfielder Choi Won-joon, who is retiring from Sangmu this week.

The fact that they have only four professional bullpen pitchers and three professional outfielders is considered a weakness.

[Ryu Joong-il/National Baseball Team Manager: We have Kim Hye-sung, Kang Baek-ho, and Kim Ji-chan, so let's make good use of them. We'll have to see how things are, but it's like '25+4' like this.
