The national team will meet its Italian counterpart at the opening of the World Wheelchair Basketball Championship for People of Determination at the Dubai World Trade Center, where the opening ceremony will be held at 5:30 pm today, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Protection of the Rights of People of Determination, where its activities will continue until the twentieth of this month, with the participation of 28 teams, 16 in the men's competition, and 12 in the women's competition.

Four teams, the UAE, Egypt, Iraq and Algeria, carry the ambitions of the Arabs in the first Arab-Middle Eastern World Cup in the first popular wheelchair game for people of determination, where the participating teams completed all their preparations for the kick-off. The 'white' cuts the opening ribbon against Italy at seven in the evening, in the first group competitions, which includes Brazil and Australia.

Ismail Al Maraziq heads the UAE delegation participating in the event, which includes Abbas Hussain as coach, Saif Hilal as his assistant, and 12 players: Habib Al Balushi, Jamal Al Badwawi, Mohammed Al Zarooni, Abdullah Al Ghafri, Ibrahim Salem, Mohammed Al Hashemi, Mohammed Hashel, Bader Abbas, Jassim Al Naqbi, Mansour Al Naqbi, Abdullah Al Sreem and Tariq Al Yasi.

The national team tested its readiness for its debut in World Cup by participating in the Arab Championship held in Kuwait, the Asian qualifiers in Thailand, and an external camp in Turkey, in addition to its current camp in the UAE.

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Thani Juma Balraqad, said in a press statement: «We welcome the delegations participating in the Dubai edition, through which we look forward to presenting an exceptional version with all its inspiring messages, which will embody the will of the players so that the world sees the great role of sport in empowering society groups, and this is the ultimate goal, in order for the tournament to achieve all the goals for which it is held». Balraggad added: "The various committees seek to highlight the civilized face of the UAE and Dubai by presenting a distinguished world championship that will be a milestone in the history of World Cup." He stressed that wheelchair basketball is no less important than any major competition in professional basketball, looking forward to the Dubai edition achieving all the desired goals according to the drawn approach.

For his part, the tournament director Majid Al-Osaimi invited the public to enjoy the first popular game on wheelchairs for people of determination, indicating that the teams include in their ranks distinguished players who are able to leave a mark on the World Cup. He said in a press statement: «We in the organizing committee and the various work teams have completed all our preparations to provide an exceptional tournament that remains stuck in the minds of everyone who enjoys participation in it and follows it». On the other hand, coach Abbas Hussein said in a press statement that facing Italy will be difficult, especially since the opponent is one of the best European teams and prepared himself well to take on the challenge of World Cup.

The World Cup will run until January 20, with the participation of 28 teams (16 for men, 12 for women).
