The IOC's executive board today recommended withdrawing recognition of the International Boxing Association (IBA) for failing to implement a raft of reforms but confirmed that the sport will be part of the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Games.

Reuters quoted the IOC as saying in a statement: "This decision is based on the IOC's comprehensive report on the status of the International Boxing Association dated June 2023, <>, which was discussed and approved by the IOC Executive Board today, and the report proves that the IWBA failed to comply with the conditions set by the IOC to lift the suspension and re-recognize the IBA."

The IOC suspended the IBAA in 2019 due to problems with administration, funding, arbitration and sporting ethics issues and did not involve it in the management of boxing competitions at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

The decision now needs to be ratified only at an extraordinary session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), scheduled for June 22.

Boxing is part of the 2024 Paris Olympics, but qualifying and competitions will be run by the IOC and not the Boxing Association, as was the case at the Tokyo 2021 Summer Games.
