Algerian player Belfadil released in case of violence against his sister

Algerian striker Isaac Belfadil has been released after the case against him for violence against his 15-year-old sister was dropped, the Versailles prosecutor's office told AFP.

Investigators heard the 31-year-old at the Elancourt police station on the outskirts of Paris after a dispute with his sister, who showed signs of suffocation without requiring treatment, a police source said earlier on Monday.

A source familiar with the file told AFP: "They grabbed each other's necks during a fight."

The player later wrote on his Instagram account: "Me and my little sister are fine."

Belfadil holds the colours of Qatar's Al-Gharafa club and has defended the Algerian national football team 17 times since 2013, after representing France's age teams.

He played in several European championships, carrying the colors of Lyon of France, Parma and Inter and the Italians, Standard Liège of Belgium, Werder Bremen, Hoffenheim and Hertha Berlin in Germany in addition to Bani Yas of the UAE.
