Hossam Aouar's first call-up in the Algerian national team
Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi called up Lyon midfielder Hossam Aouar for the first time since choosing to play for his country of origin, after previously playing for the French national team, the Algerian Football Federation announced on Tuesday evening.
The 24-year-old Aouar announced in March that he had changed his sporting nationality, after previously playing one match with the French national team, a friendly, against Ukraine on October 20, 2020.
Aouar posted a picture of himself in the Algeria national team shirt on his official Instagram account and captioned it "Finally, we will meet soon" and attached it to the Algerian flag.
The Algerian federation announced the list of players who were called up by Belmadi to participate in a match against Uganda, for the African Cup of Nations qualifiers in Ivory Coast, which Algeria had previously qualified for.
The match will take place on June 18 in Cameroon, as Uganda's stadiums do not meet the standards of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Algeria will also play a friendly against Tunisia in Annaba, Algeria, on June 20th.
