The Football Association adopted during the extraordinary general assembly meeting, yesterday, headed by Abdullah Al Junaibi, Acting President of the Federation, and the participation of members of the Board of Directors and members of the General Assembly, via visual communication technology, some amendments to the statute and the election regulations.

The Football Association said in a press statement that during the meeting, some amendments to the statute and the electoral regulations were adopted, and the continuation of the work of the judicial and arbitration committees was approved, in addition to confirming the continuity of the work of the Election Committee and the Election Appeal Committee.

It is noteworthy that this association comes within the framework of preparing for the upcoming General Assembly to elect a new board of directors for the Football Association, following the resignation of Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi from the presidency of the Federation after his appointment as Vice President of the National Olympic Committee.

During a previous meeting, the Football Association set the convening of the General Assembly to elect a new board of directors within 90 days, in accordance with the statutes of the Football Association.

The statement of the Football Association added that the extraordinary general assembly meeting, in which the Secretary-General of the Football Association, Mohammed Hazam Al Dhaheri, reviewed the agenda and called on the attendees in order to ensure that the quorum is completed, and the members ratified the agenda.

In his speech during the meeting, Abdullah Nasser Al Junaibi, Acting President of the Federation, thanked the wise leadership for its unlimited support for football and sports in general.

Al Junaibi thanked Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi for his efforts during his tenure as president of the UAE Football Association, and Salem Abdullah Al Shamsi, who apologized for completing his position as a member of the Board of Directors, wishing them continued success.

For his part, the former President of the Sports Arbitration Committee in the Football Association, Dr. Youssef Al-Sharif, stressed that the current system for electing the president and members of the Federation's Board of Directors - which is the unified list system and not the individual election system - is the best, since it leads to creating a kind of consensus between the President of the Federation and the elected members of the Board of Directors, so as not to cause disharmony between the Board of Directors, especially since the game of football needs this type of consensus.

Al-Sharif said to «Emirates Today» commenting on the convening of the General Assembly: «The meeting of the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Football Association in my opinion was limited to the issue of the upcoming elections to elect a new Board of Directors of the Football Association for the next electoral cycle, but I hope that there will be no radical amendments in the statute of the Football Association, especially with regard to the elections of the Board of Directors to serve a certain stage, and it is assumed that the texts of the regulations and statutes are fixed and stable, and that the process of adaptation to the text and not the text is from adapts to a certain circumstance."

Al-Sharif pointed out that regarding the decision of the General Assembly to continue the work of the judicial and arbitration committees in the Football Association, this decision comes with the aim of facilitating matters in managing the Federation, and working to create a kind of stability to avoid any sudden changes, in light of the current transfer phase in the Federation.

Youssef Al-Sharif: "I hope that there will be no radical amendments to the statute of the Football Association."
