Paris Saint-Germain's reserve goalkeeper, Sergio Rico, has been seriously injured in a riding accident in southern Spain. The French football champion said he learned of the accident on Sunday and was in constant contact with Rico's relatives.

French and Spanish media reported that the 29-year-old Spaniard was injured during a horseback riding trip on the edge of the Doñana National Park in his native Andalusia. There was no official information on the severity of Rico's injury. French media, citing a PSG spokesman, reported that Rico was in serious condition. The SID news service wrote of a traumatic brain injury.

As reported by the local television station Canal Sur, Rico was taken by helicopter to the Virgen del Rocio hospital in Seville. Life support measures were initiated there. According to a report in the newspaper Marca, the 29-year-old is now stable.

On Saturday, Rico was on the bench in the away game against Racing Strasbourg (1-1). With the draw, PSG had made the league title perfect. Rico's former club Sevilla FC wished the goalkeeper "a lot of strength and a speedy recovery" via Twitter.
