THE ESSENTIALS

  • The Monaco Grand Prix takes place this Sunday in the Principality. Check-out is at 15 p.m. The race is broadcast by Canal+.
  • This is the eighth stage of the 2023 World Championship, but only five races have been contested so far, due to the cancellation of the Chinese and Italian GPs.
  • Double world champion and leader of the classification, Max Verstappen will start for the first time in pole position in Monaco. The Red Bull driver finished ahead of Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) in qualifying.
  • But the Monegasque, decidedly in difficulty at home, leaves his 3rd place to Esteban Ocon (Alpine). Leclerc was accused of having "unnecessarily hindered" the British Lando Norris (McLaren) launched on a fast lap.

7:00 am: Hi lovers of F1 and "20 Minutes"

Three weeks after the Miami Grand Prix, Formula 1 is back in Monaco. Due to the deadly floods in north-east Italy, the Imola GP logically did not take place last Sunday but Max Verstappen showed again on Saturday that he was the boss. The two-time world champion, who has won three of the first five races this season (the other two going to Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez), took his first pole position in Charles Leclerc's country.

The Ferrari driver, always unhappy at home since the beginning of his career, finished 3rd in qualifying. But he will finally start 6th, after being punished for having "unnecessarily hindered" the British Lando Norris (McLaren), launched into a fast lap. Frenchman Esteban Ocon (Alpine) will therefore be 3rd on the starting grid, behind the indefatigable Fernando Alonso. The veteran of Aston Martin (41 years old) was blown pole in extremis by the Dutchman, leader of the world championship.

Because we are not immune to a race that Red Bull does not win, we find ourselves around 14:45.
