Catwalk for Primož Roglič winner of the Giro d'Italia 2023 on Geraint Thomas

The Slovenian of Jumbo-Visma, 33 years old, in his career has also won three consecutive editions of the Vuelta a España (in 2019, 2020 and 2021), a Liège-Bastogne-Liège (in 2020), a gold medal in the time trial at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

What happened in the stage

The caravan of cyclists started from the square in front of the Palazzo della Civiltà del Lavoro all'Eur and at the pace of transfer headed towards Ostia along the Cristoforo Colombo route.

Arrived at the sea, the cyclists, finally relaxed and smiling, even for the summer climate of the Capitoline day, made a U-turn at the roundabout of the Lungomare.

During these first 35 kilometers, before entering the circuit that they had to travel six times, the group was compact and Primož Roglič, winner of this 106th edition, toasted with the whole Jumbo-Visma team that supported him to conquer the prestigious success.

The hourly average of this first stretch of the race was 36 km/h.

The first escape at the 72nd kilometer: the French Maxime Bouet, the Latvian Toms Skujiņš and the Italian Cesare Benedetti, naturalized Polish, took off in front of the Arch of Constantine. On the flying finish line at the Imperial Forums Skujiņš, Bouet and Benedetti pass in the order with about thirty seconds ahead of the group.
