The branch of the Martyr Foundation in Sweida, in cooperation with the Executive Committees of the Sports and Technical Chess Federation branch, organized today an open refresher tournament with blitz chess, with the participation of twenty male and female players.

The first place of the tournament, which was hosted by the tourist hotel hall in the city of Suwayda, was won by Aghid Al-Aqbani, followed by Hisham Danoun and Sayel Al-Kafiri.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Martyr Foundation branch in Suwayda, Asaad Al-Shibl, said in a statement to SANA that the tournament was held on the occasion of Martyrs' Day, and will become an annual tradition with the aim of encouraging the practice of this sport based on its benefits.

Meanwhile, the head of the Technical Committee for Chess, Eng. Rifaat Khader, said in a similar statement that the tournament was organized in a seven-round Swiss league manner, indicating its importance to provide an opportunity for friction and increase the experience of the governorate's players in blitz chess.

At the end of the tournament, the winners were honored with financial prizes in the presence of the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Sports Federation Branch, Tariq Al-Afif, and a member of the Committee, Nasser Al-Najjar, in addition to allocating prizes to the youngest players, namely Saif Al-Afif, Kami Hamed, Amir Al-Atrash, and for the sportsmanship of the player Catherine Al-Atrash.
