The player of the Syrian national team for physical strength, Hassan Al-Masri, won the bronze medal at the World Championship held in South Africa in the master category.

The Egyptian managed to win bronze after lifting 210 kg, knowing that the second-place holder, a Finn, lifted 217 and a half kg, while the first place, from Hungary, lifted 222 and a half kg.

This is the first tournament involving two Arab players, as Moroccan player Nizar Belil competed in the 105kg competition and won the bronze medal.

In a statement to SANA, the Egyptian player said: The competition was strong, but it did not prevent me from achieving my ambition, which is to be on the podium and raise the flag of Syria high in this global forum, which brought together champions of physical strength from different parts of the world.

The President of the Physical Strength Federation, Ziad Mohamed, pointed out in a similar statement to the great efforts made by the Egyptian on his way to bronze, which came as a culmination of the studied strategy pursued by the player and the game federation during the preparation period, noting the importance of participating in this global event because it put the game in Syria on the map of the International Federation, especially since affiliation to it was only in the past few years.

It is noteworthy that the Egyptian player 40 years from Arwad Island in Tartous Governorate and won during his sports career many local titles, specifically in the Republic's championships in bodybuilding and arm wrestling, and won at the external level bronze in the Championship of the strongest Arab man held in Lebanon last year and came sixth in the Asian Championship for bodybuilding in Kazakhstan and serves as Secretary of the Arab Federation for Professional Wrestling and Secretary of the Arab Federation for the strongest man.
