Floods cause cancellation of the Formula 1 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix

The organisers of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, the sixth round of the Formula One World Championship, scheduled for this weekend at the famous Imola circuit, announced today that the race "will not take place" due to floods that have killed at least five people in northern Italy.

"Following discussions between Formula One, the president of the FIA, the relevant authorities, including the relevant ministers, the president of the Italian Automobile Club, the president of the Emilia-Romagna region, the mayor of the city and the meadows, the decision has been made that the Grand Prix will not be held in Imola," the organizers said, without specifying whether the race will be rescheduled.
