Marco Cecchinato leaves the scene in the third round of the International Tennis Championships in Rome. The world number 83 tennis player, yields to the German Yannick Hanfmann, number 101 in the ATP ranking and coming from the qualifiers, after two hours and 22 minutes.

Today Cecchinato at the service was certainly not exciting, Hanfmann won 58% of points on the second service of the blue. Lack of depth by Cecchinato on a slow field due to the rain of recent days, the German in fact always took the upper hand in the exchanges when the Italian looked for deep shots, rendered harmless by the heavy ground of the field. Only a reaction to the second set led the Italian to play the match in the last part, but nothing could in the long run, also by virtue of the break granted immediately in the opening of the decisive partial. It ended 6-4 4-6 6-3, with Cecchinato able to recover a break disadvantage in the eighth game, and wave the white flag on the German's second match point.

In the end 12 points more for the German who enters the third round where he will challenge Rublev or Davidovich Fokina, on court on Pietrangeli. For Cecchinato, it remains the best result in his career in Rome: the signs, after the semi-final in Estoril and the second round in Madrid, are encouraging. The first of the Azzurri therefore does not make it to the eighth, Lorenzo Musetti and Lorenzo Sonego will try later, respectively against Tiafoe and Tsitsipas.
