Abdullah Al Junaibi as interim president of the Football Association

The Board of Directors of the UAE Football Association held an emergency meeting on Sunday at the Federation's headquarters in Dubai, during which it discussed developments related to the resignation of Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi from the presidency of the Federation, and decided to assume the First Vice President of the Federation, Abdullah Nasser Al Junaibi, the presidency of the Federation temporarily and grant him the powers of the President of the Federation until the call for a general assembly within 90 days to elect a new Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors was keen to thank Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi for his tenure as President of the Federation since the current Board assumed its duties in January 2020 during the 2020-2024 electoral cycle.

The Secretary-General of the Football Association, Mohammed Hazzam Al Dhaheri, said in a press statement after the meeting: "The Council decided, in accordance with the text of Article 99 of the Statute of the Football Association, to assume the First Vice President Abdullah Nasser Al-Junaibi as President of the Federation until the call for a general assembly to elect a new board of directors, and invitations for holding the general assembly will be sent to the member clubs of the Football Association 60 days before the date of the assembly."

The Secretary General of the Football Association indicated that the current Board of Directors is not entitled to extend the 90-day period for holding a general assembly to elect a new Board of Directors.
Article 101 of the Statute of the Football Association stipulates that "in the event that the president stops performing his official duties temporarily or permanently, the board of directors shall convene within seven days to choose one of the two vice-presidents to carry out the duties of the president within a temporary period of time until the next general assembly that appoints a new president by election."
