Following a player's serious injury, the match between TSG Hoffenheim II and VfR Aalen in the Regionalliga Südwest on Friday was abandoned after just under an hour.

According to the Hoffenheimers, Aalen's striker Steffen Kienle had hit the goal post during an attack and remained unconscious. As a result, the game was ended prematurely by the referee after 58 minutes.

After minutes of treatment, the 28-year-old was taken away, but Kienle was "stable and responsive" on the way to hospital, according to his club.

While the second team of the Bundesliga club Hoffenheim still has a chance of promotion to the third division, Aalen is fighting against relegation.
