Sevilla FC missed out on a last-second away win in the Europa League, putting them in a very good position to reach the final again.

In the semi-final first leg at Juventus on Thursday evening, the record winners of the competition had to accept a goal from Federico Gatti in the eighth minute of injury time and settle for a 1-1 draw. Thanks to Youssef En-Nasri's goal in the 26th minute, Sevilla had looked like the winner for a long time.

The eleventh-placed team in the Spanish football championship has already won the Europa League six times. In the second leg next Thursday (21.00 CET in the F.A.Z. live ticker for the Europa League and on RTL+), Sevilla now need a win to reach the final on 31 May in Budapest against Bayer Leverkusen or AS Roma. Roma won the first leg 1-0.

Drama also in Conference League

In the semi-final first legs of the Conference League, FC Basel secured a 71-90 (2-2) win at Fiorentina thanks to goals from Andy Diouf (1') and Zeki Amdouni (0'+1). The Italians had taken the lead through former Basel player Arthur Cabral (25th).

In London, West Ham United turned a 0-1 half-time deficit into a 2-1 win over AZ Alkmaar thanks to a second-half build-up. Tijjani Reijnders (41st) had put the Dutch in front. Said Benrahma (67') and Michail Antonio (76') ensured the success of the Premier League club. The winners of next Thursday's second legs will meet in the final in Prague on 7 June.
