France's Amandine Buchard won the bronze medal in the -52kg category on Monday at the World Judo Championships in Doha while France's Walide Khyar won the first world medal of his career by taking bronze in the -66kg category. Amandine Buchard won her fourth world medal, her fourth bronze, after those of 2014, 2018 and 2022.

Buchard, also Olympic runner-up in the category in Tokyo, fell in the quarterfinals to Japan's Uta Abe, who had beaten her in the final of the Games, before bounced back against South Korea's Jang Seyun in the repechage. In her fight for bronze, she dominated Hungary's Reka Pupp, 3rd in the world.

Khyar, 27, defeated South Korea's An Baul in the bronze medal fight by waza-ari. During the day, the Frenchman made it to the semi-finals in convincing fashion, before losing to the Tokyo Olympic champion, the formidable Japanese Hifumi Abe.

This is the third medal for the France since the beginning of these Worlds after the gold of Shirine Boukli in the -48 kg category.
