Veteran British television commentator Martin Tyler, who likened Son Heung-min's foul to "martial arts", has been embroiled in a racism controversy.

"During the Liverpool and Tottenham clash, Sky Sports commentator Tyler called it 'martial arts' during a foul on Son Heung-min," the UK's Daily Mail reported, "and fans criticised Tyler's comments as racist."

Son Heung-min fouled on Cody Hakpo seven minutes into the second half as they drew 3-1 against Liverpool earlier in the day when he blocked Cody Hakpo's counter-attack.

The referee pulled out a yellow card for Son Heung-min, and Taylor likened the situation of Son Heung-min's foul to 'martial art' in this scene.

'Martial arts' is a word used in the East to talk about taekwondo, kungfu, judo, etc., which do not use weapons.

The use of "martial arts" in foul play by Son Heung-min, who is of Asian descent, might sound racist.

When Tyler's comments came out, fans began pointing it out on social media.

One fan wrote on his Twitter account, "It's unacceptable for Tyler to say 'martial arts' after an Asian player receives a yellow card, and 'No Room for Racism' is not just a slogan."
