• Olympique de Marseille put an end to more than fifteen years of famine in Lyon, winning Sunday with authority the Olympico (1-2).
  • This prestigious success allows Igor Tudor's men to recover second place in Ligue 1 to the Lensois (now third by one point), six days from the end.
  • While a thrilling RC Lens-OM is approaching (May 6), the Marseillais still maintain an infernal pace that should send them back to the Champions League.

At Parc OL,

Laurent Bonnart, Jacques Faty, Julien Rodriguez, Ronald Zubar and the late Modeste M'Bami finally have successors. Because more than fifteen years after its last success in Ligue 1 in Lyon (1-2 in November 2007, with a double from Mamadou Niang), Olympique de Marseille decided to put it back on Sunday. In a crowded Parc OL (57,509 spectators) then stunned by the goal against his fatal side in the extra time of Malo Gusto (1-2, 90th+2), Igor Tudor's men signed a big blow in their quest for qualification in the Champions League. It is not insignificant to see that the Croatian coach let his joy explode as rarely at the final whistle.

Unleashed, the former coach of Hellas Verona even began to throw his jacket and sweatshirt of OM in the stands of the Stade Lyonnais, in the direction of his family, present for the occasion after attending Friday the semi-final of Youth League of his favorite club Hadjuk Split in Geneva.

After the pressure put on Friday by RC Lens, impressive fall of AS Monaco (3-0), the Marseillais have resumed with authority their second place, with a point ahead of the Blood and Gold six days from the end. If nothing is done for the direct qualification in C1, with the Lens-OM summit in Bollaert approaching (May 6 at 21 pm), a place on the podium takes shape, with the misstep of Monegasques dropped six points from OM.

"We're sending a message"

"It's a perfect evening," says Valentin Rongier. This match clearly counts more than the others because it's always important to win an Olympico. We're sending a message for second place, and it's important to maintain our momentum. This one does not weaken, especially far from the Velodrome where OM displays a course of champion of France. Put under pressure by OL during the first quarter of an hour, before opening the scoring by Cengiz Under (0-1, 44th) and then increasing in power after half-time, the Marseillais were up to a strange turn. "In the first half, we gave up playing a little when we had the ball, points out Igor Tudor. But we corrected that in the second half. »

With a bluffing Leo Balerdi as a surprise starter, instead of an unused Chancel Mbemba at Parc OL, OM once again proved that it had resources. "We went through all the states in this match, notes Samuel Gigot on Free Ligue 1. We didn't give up, and the outcome with this goal at the last second is exceptional. Winning here, when you know the tension between the two clubs... We are ready to give everything until the end. " How not to believe the combative Marseille central defender? OM continues to fuel at an average of more than two points per game and its next big work of the spring will pass through the North, in Lens and then in Lille on May 21.

"We felt we were strong"

"We did not steal this victory, continues Valentin Rongier. We delivered a very serious match, very successful, with a lot of intensity and duels. Everything was not perfect but we felt that we were strong. Tough like Alexis Sanchez, again radiating on the front of the attack, and notably involved in the opening of the Marseille score.

If Alexandre Lacazette willingly recognized the superiority of Marseille on Sunday (14 shots to 7, 7 shots framed to 2), Laurent Blanc posed a flat: "In the last fifteen minutes, I found that the Marseillais made a lot of technical errors. They lost a lot of balls in the construction and we almost took advantage of it. "Failed" therefore, because for the factual elements, OM is now 17 points ahead of its supposed rival Lyon (7th), who was decidedly not a bête noire this season for the band to Igor Tudor.
