Godolphin star Anamo retires from racing

Godolphin has announced the retirement of Australia's Grade One winning colt Anamo, and the four-year-old is heading for new roles as a stallion at Darley Stables for 2023.
Godolphin said in a statement today on the team's official website: "The Colt (Anamo), who has nine wins in the world's top-ranked Group 1, will retire from racing, and reside a stallion at the (Kelvinside) farm in (Hunter Valley) in New South Wales."
The statement explained: "The horse, who has succeeded over three consecutive seasons, carrying the banner of (Godolphin) and trainer James Cummings, scoring 14 victories out of 25 entries in his racing career, and reaping financial gains on the race track exceeding A$12 million, will leave racing as the second horse in Australia in more than 20 years, winning the first category races at the age of two, third and fourth respectively."
Referring to the colt's career and achievements in the Group One races, the statement said: "Anamo began his career in the Group One races at the age of two, when the colt finished in both the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper Stakes, before winning his first victory in the G1 by winning the Cyrus Prodeus Stakes by three lengths from his nearest rival.
"At the age of three, Anamo won the G1 Caulfield Guineas before winning the G1 Rosehill Guineas by more than six lengths, and his strong performances attracted the attention of racing fans around the world, after the three-year-old Australian champion maintained his fine four-year streak of achievements, with six Group One wins over distances between 1,400 and 2,040m, including last year's Cox's Plate."
Godolphin Australia's general manager, Finn Cox, expressed his delight at the addition of Anamo to Darley's stallions, pointing to his impressive record, physical composition and pedigree, which makes him highly sought after by breeders, Cox said: "It is wonderful and painful at the same time, that Anamo is retiring from the racetrack, being an iconic and unique horse for Godolphin and the world of horse racing, as he will leave an unforgettable legacy."
"Performance, pedigree and temperament are the most important factors that breeders take into account, and Anamo clearly retains all of these abilities, and there is no doubt that Anamo, who is preparing to exercise his new duties as a stallion on the prestigious Derley list, is the exceptional stallion that Australia has ever seen."
Godolphin coach James Cummings said: "The team is very proud of what Anamo has achieved in his racing career, as he never let us down, and he made every effort for us in all his participations, and we wish him success in his new duties, and we cannot wait to see his offspring in the stables in the coming years," adding: "It was a great honor and privilege for our team to oversee the training of Anamo during his career, as his health has always been our top priority, and we are proud that he retired in excellent condition."
