Bayern defender subjected to racist chants and the club defends him

German football club Bayern Munich denounced the racist insults that targeted its French international defender Dayo Opamicano from some Bavarian supporters, via social media after he made a disappointing performance against Manchester City.

The Bavarian giants said in a statement the day after losing to City 3-<> in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals that "the whole club" supports the player.

Bayern wrote on his official Instagram page: "All of us, at the club, condemn racism in the strongest way! The whole club is behind you Oba!" The defender of the "Roosters" made a huge mistake that caused the second of Manchester City's three goals on Tuesday in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the continental competition.

Bayern midfielder and captain Joshua Kimmich said after the match: "It's very difficult for Oba but his presence (at the club) is not without foundations. He has great qualities and we believe in him."
