100 days before the World Cup kick-off, the German footballers experienced a sobering lesson against Brazil. The European Championship runners-up lost on Tuesday evening in Nuremberg deservedly 1:2 (0:2) to the South American champions. In front of 32,587 spectators, Tamires (11th minute) and Ari Borges (37th) scored for the much more playful Seleção. Jule Brand (90.+2) scored the German goal late.

Before the game in the Max Morlock Stadium, the former captain Dzsenifer Marozsan had been bid farewell. The Olympique Lyon playmaker, who waved to the crowd with shining eyes before kick-off, played her 112th and final international match as the joker. After a cruciate ligament rupture last year, the knee of the 30-year-old is no longer so resilient, so she had announced her retirement from the national team.

Brazil nimble and ball-proof

Midfielder Melanie Leupolz, who came on as a substitute in the 64th minute, returned to the DFB selection just six months after the birth of her son. The 28-year-old from Chelsea FC is the third mother in the history of the German team after today's national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and goalkeeper Almuth Schult.

At the third-to-last test before the World Cup from 20 July to 20 August in Australia and New Zealand, where Germany will meet Morocco, Colombia and South Korea in the preliminary round, the hosts had a lot of trouble with the nimble and ball-sure Brazilians of Swedish coach Pia Sundhage right from the start.

Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger, who played for regular keeper Merle Frohms (back problems), was not only powerless at 0:1, but also had to be treated even longer because she had rushed into Gabi Nunes. Defender Sara Doorsoun had previously misjudged a steep pass – Tamires turned off jubilantly.

Berger patzt at corner

At 2-0 after a short corner by Ari Borges, Berger looked pretty bad as the ball sailed past everyone into the net. After that, the Brazilians, who can be German opponents at the World Cup, already performed a little dance.

Four days after the flattering 1-0 win in the Netherlands, captain Alexandra Popp had to stay in the dressing room at the break. For the Wolfsburgerin came the Munich Sydney Lohmann. The DFB team also continued to struggle with the toughness and athleticism of the Brazilians. And very little went forward. Lea Schüller from FC Bayern, Germany's Footballer of the Year, was also hardly staged.

Leupolz played with a face mask after breaking her nose in the Champions League, but like Marozsan, she could not turn the game around. The shot by Lohmann (84th) was one of the few dangerous scenes up to that point. Brand dusted off in injury time.

The DFB selection will next meet on 20 June at the first of two World Cup preparations in Herzogenaurach, with two home test matches planned. Until then, Voss-Tecklenburg still has a lot to work through.
