Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool FC have made the English football championship a little more exciting again. The Reds came on Sunday in a spectacular Premier League game despite a 0-2 deficit to a 2-2 (1-2) against league leaders FC Arsenal. The Gunners now have 30 points after 73 games, six points more than defending champions Manchester City. However, coach Pep Guardiola's team still has a catch-up game. Liverpool remains in midfield after the strong performance in eighth.

The guests of coach Mikel Arteta appeared at the otherwise so feared Anfield Road from the beginning like a championship contender. Arsenal needed only eight minutes to take the lead: Gabriel Martinelli skilfully completed a beautiful individual performance to make it 1-0. The Klopp eleven came into the game better, but was countered ice-cold by the league leaders. Gabriel Jesus easily headed in after Martinelli's pass against an overtaxed Liverpool defence to make it 2-0 (28th minute).

The second goal, however, woke up Liverpool. The guests withdrew, the Champions League winner of 2019 took control. Shortly before the break, Mohamed Salah was able to shorten it to 1:2 (42nd) and completed a furious first half. "This is a very strange season," Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp said before kick-off: "Sometimes we win historically high, a week later nothing works anymore."

Stormy it continued even after the change of sides. Salah missed the big chance for the equalizer shortly afterwards. The Egyptian shot a foul penalty next to the goal of keeper Aaron Ramsdale (54.).

Liverpool pushed for the 2-2, Arsenal countered dangerously. Andrew Robertson cleared in the last second before the bullet-ready Bukayo Saka (74.). On the other side, Darwin Nunez failed free-standing to Ramsdale (81st). Then Roberto Firmino provided the well-deserved equaliser after a strong pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold in the 87th minute, before a turbulent final phase began.

In injury time, first Ramsdale saved the draw against Salah (90.+5) and then Ibrahima Konaté (90.+6). Liverpool seemed to despair in this phase, but in the end there was overwhelming satisfaction with the point won against the league leaders.
