Ski Dubai announced the participation of three Emirati athletes for the first time, who receive training in snow sports at the Ice Skating Academy, in the famous development program of the International Skating Federation (FIS), within the free skiing on the tracks and in the snow parks, and the snowboard training camp at the Laax ski resort in Switzerland, from the second to the seventh of this month.
The young skiers will be accompanied by Ski Dubai Ski Academy lead ski instructor James Mashon and will join 14 other athletes and 10 coaches from 10 countries. The bootcamp aims to nurture emerging talent by learning new skills and getting physical training.
The three young skiers are Amna Al Muhairi (15), Mira Al Marri (15) and Abdullah Al Rasheed (17). The six-day programme includes downhill skiing and high ski jumping, organised by the International Federation.
Players will undergo intensive ice training, as well as onshore courses, focusing on acrobatic skills and fitness at the Lazz Resort in Switzerland, one of the best freestyle skiing and snowboarding resorts in the world, which hosts the US Open annually.
Last year, Amna Al Muhairi participated in the international figure skating competition as the first female athlete to represent the UAE in this competition, winning a total of 11 medals in Bosnia and Croatia.
Through expert training and video analysis, the three athletes will have the opportunity to acquire the skills and techniques needed to compete in international competitions, including the World Junior Championships in New Zealand next September.
Last year, the UAE was approved as an associate member of the IAAF after a five-year campaign, led by Ski Dubai, in collaboration with the UAE Winter Sports Federation, which paved the way for Emirati athletes participating in snow sports to compete internationally for the first time.
Ski Dubai was awarded the World's Best Indoor Ski Resort by the World Ski Awards, a title he has retained for seven consecutive years.
