• The French Football Federation (FFF) had been looking for three weeks, and the eviction of Corinne Diacre during the Comex of March 9, a coach for its women's selection.
  • Less than four months before the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, the lucky winner has just been announced this Thursday, after a meeting of the Executive Committee, in the person of Hervé Renard.
  • Released only Tuesday from his position at the head of the Saudi selection, the 54-year-old technician is embarking on his first experience in women's football, and will announce his first list of players selected on Friday.

After three long weeks of uncertainty following the ouster of Corinne Diacre, the women's football France team officially has a coach this Thursday. Priority choice of the French Football Federation (FFF) and its dedicated committee within the Executive Committee (composed of Jean-Michel Aulas, Marc Keller and the two ex-internationals Laura Georges and Aline Riera), Hervé Renard is the lucky winner. Two days after officially breaking his big contract linking him until 2027 to the Saudi selection, in parallel with a last friendly match played against Bolivia (1-2) in Jeddah, the 54-year-old technician has committed to the head of the Blues until August 2024.

The timing could not be tighter since the list of the next gathering of the women's France team for friendly matches against Colombia (April 7 in Clermont) and Canada (April 11 in Le Mans) is to be given Friday. These are Les Bleues' last two tests before the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which begin in less than four months. If Hervé Renard's total inexperience in women's football raises reservations, he has obtained convincing results with several selections over the past fifteen years.

Wendie Renard and Diani in the list on Friday?

Double winner of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012 and 2015, respectively with the surprising Zambia and Ivory Coast, the native of Aix-les-Bains (Savoie) also qualified Morocco for the 2018 World Cup, before offering in December to Saudi Arabia the greatest result in its history in a World Cup, with this victory (2-1) against Argentina of Lionel Messi in Qatar. Experiences that will not be too much when it comes to recovering a selection considered among the favorites before each major competition for twelve years, but which has so far had to settle for three semi-finals in its entire history (World Cup 2011, Olympic Games 2012 and Euro 2022).

Add to this the dramas in shambles (Amandine Henry, Sarah Bouhaddi, Eugénie Le Sommer, Wendie Renard) with Corinne Diacre (2017-2023), both on management and on his coaching and staff "far from the requirements required by the highest level" (dixit Wendie Renard), and you will have an idea of the scale of the project for Hervé Renard. The probable presence at his side of Eric Blahic, appreciated by the Blues during his time as assistant to Corinne Diacre (from January 2020 to June 2021), could be precious. And the curiosities will not be lacking, as soon as the list of players selected Friday is announced. Hold on, Wendie Renard, Kadidiatou Diani or even other rebels of the Deacon era could they already be?
