Reasons for the divorce of Conte and Tottenham. and the selection of the new coach

After 16 months of chaos, the relationship between Tottenham Hotspur and coach Antonio Conte ended after the Italian made a fiery new statement in which he criticised the selfishness of his players and the defeatist mentality of the club.
The north London club said in a statement on Sunday evening: "We can announce that Antonio Conte has left the club by mutual agreement. We managed to qualify for the Champions League in Conte's first season so we thank him for that and wish him success in the future."
"Christian Stellini will take charge of coaching the team until the end of the season, assisted by Ryan Mason."
Club president Daniel Levy said: "We have 10 Premier League games left and we have to fight to reach the Champions League again. Everyone has to make a redoubled effort to achieve this goal."
Conte is in fourth place with 10 stages to go before the end of the season.
The Italian joined the north London club in November 2021 and his reputation as a strong and successful coach preceded him, at least domestically, but with the negative point of not staying in his position for long.
Tottenham put his hopes of Conte, crowned league title with both Juventus and Inter of Italy and Chelsea of England, to end a period of 15 years without titles.
Although some considered it difficult for Tottenham to get past the Premier League barrier, Conte knew last year how to instill in his team the mentality that allowed them to beat Arsenal in the last-gasp race for the final Champions League qualifying card.

Conti goes beyond the line

However, poor results in domestic cups and finally exiting the final of the continent's most prestigious competition against AC Milan (1-3 home and 3-20 away), with boring performances, led to a cooling of the relationship between the club and its coach.
While Conte's contract renewal at the end of the season seemed to be in doubt, the Italian decided to go too far during a press conference held after his team drew <>-<> with Southampton after leading until the final quarter of an hour in the final phase of the league before the international window.
"We are not a team," he said. We are a team where everyone thinks only of themselves. I don't see any sense of responsibility on the part of the players."
"We're falling back, I see a lot of negative attitudes and a lot of selfish attitudes that I don't like in players."
Conte also criticised the club's management, saying: "They're used to it here, they don't play for something important. They don't want to play under pressure. They don't want to play with tension."
"Tottenham's story is this: the owner has been here for <> years and they haven't won anything. If they want to continue like this, they can change coaches, a lot of coaches but the situation can't change, believe me."

Repelled by disease and mortality

It's not the first time Conte has appeared hostile and uttered dramatic and harsh words during a press conference.
In mid-February last year, he lamented not being able to compete for the Premier League title: "For me, it's hard to talk about fourth place, because I'm used to scoring other goals."
The new season was no different from the previous one as Tottenham's sporting results swung and the Italian's adventure was very exhausting on a personal level after he had to undergo surgery to remove his gallbladder at the beginning of February.
He was also deeply affected by the death of his long-time physical trainer Jean-Piero Ventroni, as well as the death of former Serbian teammates Siniša Mihajlovic and Gianluka Viali after a long battle with cancer.
Conte's criticism did not come out of nowhere, as he had previously lamented Spurs' lack of ambition in the transfer market.
Ironically, after the expensive sacking of Argentina's Mauricio Pochettino, Portugal's Jose Mourinho and compatriot Nuno Espirito Santo in the past three and a half seasons, Conte's sacking would cost the club's coffers £4 million (€4.5 million), while Tottenham could have used the money to bolster their squad with new players.
