Thomas Tuchel gave his first press conference as coach of Bayern Munich on Saturday at the Allianz Arena. Appointed the day before in place of Julian Nagelsmann, the German technician ensures that he fell from the clouds when the Bavarian leaders contacted him Tuesday evening.

"Whether you believe me or not, I was a little circumspect in the first 30 seconds of our first discussion. I didn't know what we were discussing. It became clear pretty quickly that it was for now," said the 49-year-old, who has played for Mainz, Dortmund, PSG and Chelsea.

"No contact" before Tuesday

"I was completely surprised. The timing was surprising. I absolutely did not expect that on Tuesday, there had been no contact before," added Tuchel, who won the Champions League with the London club in 2021, before being sacked just over a year later, in September 2022. He had since moved to Munich. Chance, again and again...

The German arrives on the bench of Bayern in the middle of the international break and will not be able to have all his players until Friday, even if his first training with the Munich not selected in selection is scheduled for Monday. In his first match, Tuchel will face his former club, Borussia Dortmund, on April 1 for a "Klassiker" decisive for the title this season (Dortmund has 53 points, one more than Bayern). "This is THE game in German football. And it takes on a new importance," Tuchel said.
