William Eklund scored his first NHL goal: "Had to wait"

It was in the middle of the second period that William Eklund struck.

After a shot was fired from a back position, the Swede took care of the rebound and knocked in the puck with a backhand.

The goal was the 20-year-old's first in the NHL and came in his 15th game in the league.

- I have dreamed of my first NHL goal since I was little, as all hockey players do.

I've had to wait a while too, during the matches I've played in recent weeks.

So it felt fantastic to see it go in, says Eklund to Aftonbladet.

He has played most of the season in the AHL with the San Jose Barracuda but now the Swede was noted for his second point in the NHL this season.

However, San Jose lost the game 5–6 after overtime.

In the match, Erik Karlsson provided an assist and tied Victor Hedman's scoring record for Swedish defenders.

The 32-year-old has scored 85 points and leads the backs in scoring.
