It was at 3-2 in the second set that Medvedev stepped badly and both the physiotherapist and Zverev, who had just returned from a severe sprain that required surgery, rushed to Medvedev who was writhing in pain on the court.

Medvedev was then tightly taped as he sat in his chair.

Despite limping, Medvedev was able to go on to win the match and take his 17th straight victory (tournament wins in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai) after 3.17 on court.

“Will be quite painful”

- Now the adrenaline starts to leave the body and the body starts to cool down.

It will be quite painful and I will probably have to X-ray the foot to see if I can continue playing, Medvedev said according to Reuters.

- It is one of the few times that the physiotherapist tapes my foot so I gave it a chance and I was surprised that it was much easier to run than to walk.

It was a crazy match, says Medvedev, who won the US Open in 2021 and was world number one a year ago.
