Germany's Denise Herrmann-Wick made a successful WC on home soil in Oberhof when she took an individual gold and silver, as well as a silver in the relay.

Now she announces that her career is over - after the World Cup competitions in the Norwegian Holmenkollen this week.

"It was here, in Holmenkollen, that I did my very first WC, then as a cross-country skier.

Five years later, I chose to switch to biathlon.

This is a special place and so it feels like a worthy ending.

It feels a bit sad, of course,"

she writes on Instagram.

Herrmann-Wick has a 16-season elite career behind him, seven of which as a biathlete.

She won two Olympic medals and nine medals.

Thus, two big names have chosen to retire on the same day, after the Norwegian Marte Olsbu Röiseland gave the same notice earlier.
