He was one of the most famous figures in the high jump. Former U.S. athlete Dick Fosbury, Olympic champion in 1968, died Sunday at age 76, his agent announced Monday.

"It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that Dick Fosbury, a friend and longtime client, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Sunday morning after a brief recurrence of lymphoma," Ray Schulte wrote on Instagram. The athlete revolutionized the high jump with a technique that has made school and now bears his name.
